Right to Trial in a Reasonable Time

The Supreme Court has recently ruled in R. v. Thanabalasingham that a person’s right to trial within a reasonable time was breached because it took over four and a half years for the trial to begin. This is much longer than the ruling in R. v. Jordan, which stated that trials should finish within 18 or 30 months after the accused has been charged.
