When an offender receives an absolute discharge, it is considered the least severe sentence for adults. Although a finding of guilt is made, no conviction is registered, and the offender is not required to follow any conditions (such as a probation order). The offender's case is concluded on that day, and they do not need to attend court or check in with a probation officer afterward.
The absolute discharge will remain on the offender's criminal record for one year from the date of discharge, and no pardon application is necessary to have it removed.
